Our School Vision: Our goal is to produce members of society who are Considerate to everyone they meet, who have a Co-operative approach to life and who are Confident in each other and in themselves to strive for the very best that they can be.

We aim to achieve this by using Christian values as our guide and helping them to grow within a caring and inclusive community

How Music fits into the vision: Music is an important part in teaching confidence in our children at St. Bartholomew's. Children are given the opportunity in each year group to learn musical instruments, and are encouraged to express themselves through music in class situations, assemblies and Key Stage performances, both as soloists and as part of an ensemble. We believe music helps our children in developing co-operation with others, and consideration for different cultures and beliefs.

Our Music Subject Leader: Hello, my name is Mrs Livsey and I lead Music. I trained as a pianist and singer at Huddersfield University and I am passionate about providing wider musical opportunities to our children at St. Bartholomew's. Each music lesson is tailored to fit in with the key areas of music: understanding music, listening and appraising, improvising, composing and performance.

Our Music Curriculum: Our Music Curriculum follows the requirement of the National Curriculum, providing a broad and balanced curriculum and ensuring development of musical concepts and knowledge and skills.

Our intent:

To develop the knowledge and understanding children need in order to become confident performers, composers and listeners.
To help children feel that they are musical and to develop a life-long love of music.
To develop the pupils’ ability to observe, learn about and record from the world about them.
To use a variety of instruments, tools and processes, including ICT, safely, experimentally and with increasing confidence, technical control and skill.
To develop the pupils’ ability to express their own responses, feelings and ideas using visual, tactile, verbal and written means where appropriate.
To introduce children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities.
To develop and understanding of the history and cultural context of the music that they listen to.
To learn how music can be written down using graphic and traditional notation.
To develop musical skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music, and listening and responding to music.
To develop transferable skills such as team-work, leadership, creative thinking, problem-solving, decision-making and presentation and performance skills.
