Design and Technology Curriculum Page
Our School Vision: Our goal is to produce members of society who are Considerate to everyone they meet, who have a Co-operative approach to life and who are Confident in each other and in themselves to strive for the very best that they can be.
We aim to achieve this by using Christian values as our guide and helping them to grow within a caring and inclusive community
How Design and Technology fits into the vision: Design and Technology (D.T.) is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
At St. Bartholomew's children are taught to select and use appropriate tools safely and effectively to make a product.
In all areas of Design and Technology the children are encouraged to consider the effectiveness of their designs and requirements of the product. Every child will have the opportunity to learn and extend their understanding, experience and application in the use of technology, including computing, in as wide a variety of situations as possible.
Our Design and Technology Subject Leader: Hello, my name is Miss Kitchin and I lead D.T. I am passionate about pupils being given the opportunity to be creative and display their talents. I love the hands-on aspect to DT and enjoy observing the progression through the planning, design and evaluation stages of their project.
Our Design and Technology Curriculum: Our D.T. Curriculum follows the National Curriculum and aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday
tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
- build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design
and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
- critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
Our intent
We want our children to use creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We intend for all children to acquire appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the NationalCurriculum. It is our aim to create strong cross curricular links with other subjects, such as
Mathematics, Science, Computing, and Art. We want Design and Technology to prepare our children, to give them the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they need to be successful in later life.
