St Bartholomew's CE Primary

Considerate, Co-operative, Confident

Maths Curriculum Page

Our School Vision: Our goal is to produce members of society who are Considerate to everyone they meet, who have a Co-operative approach to life and who are Confident in each other and in themselves to strive for the very best that they can be.

We aim to achieve this by using Christian values as our guide and helping them to grow within a caring and inclusive community

How Maths fits into the vision: At St. Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School, we consider that Mathematics is a vital part of the whole curriculum; it is a tool for everyday life. It is a network of concepts and relationships which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It is used to analyse and communicate information and ideas and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems.

Our Maths Subject Leader: Hello, my name is Mrs Anchor and I lead Maths.  I am passionate about supporting children throughout their time at St. Bartholomew's Primary and helping them develop the Maths skills needed to prepare them for life.

Our Maths Curriculum: Our Maths Curriculum follows the National Curriculum requirements and must be taught in Primary Schools. The 2014 National Curriculum for Maths aims to ensure that all children:

Become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics

  • Are able to reason mathematically
  • Can solve problems by applying their Mathematic

As a school we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme which is supplemented with other resources where necessary to support the childrens learning.

Our Maths Intent:  Our intent for Maths at St Bartholomew's is to develop skills that are embedded within Maths lessons and developed consistently over time. We intend to encourage an ability to solve problems, to reason, to think logically and to work systematically and accurately. To support this, children must learn their times tables and number bonds. We aim for our children to develop an ability to use and apply mathematics across the curriculum and in real life and we encourage children to use a range of strategies and investigations when working mathematically.  We allow and support equal access to the mathematics curriculum to all our children and expect that they develop an appreciation of the patterns and relationships within maths itself.

Maths Skills:

Maths Knowledge Organisers: We are using the Twinkl Knowledge organisers for each unit which follow the White Rose Scheme of work. Each knowledge organiser contains key vocabulary and worked examples for each year group.
